This is the other half of the Scene Study class, with Carrie Dobro. We talked about technical vocabulary such as "Master Shot", which is the first shot of a scene that includes everything that takes place in the scene in one shot. After that comes "Coverage" which is all the close ups, individual sections of the scene, etc. We learned a lot more vocabulary, but I won't bore you with all that.
We also talked about Matching & Continuity, which means making sure that your action is the same take after take, so that the different shots can be edited together smoothly. Meaning if you put your glass down on a specific word or phrase in one take, you put your glass down at the same moment in every other take. Also our emotional intensity needs to be the same take after take. And sometimes, you won't get to the Coverage shots until several hours later or the next day even, so you need to remember what your actions were, what your emotional intesity was so that you can match it.
The second half of the class we filmed our neutral scenes, but we didn't get a chance to watch them. We didn't get to work on matching when we filmed, however, due to time and lack of an editing machine to show how the takes could or could not be edited together. The scene my partner and I did came out fairly well, we were connected and reacted off each other really well, although I felt timid in the first few lines of the scene, but that may have been a reaction to my thinking about the given circumstances we created for our characters. The only note Carrie had for me was not to give up on my objective, which I did half-way through the scene because his character was treating my character like shit.
