I saw an awesome play last weekend! Misalliance by George Bernard Shaw is playing at South Coast Repertory through Oct 10th, 2010.
It's a Classic, It's a Comedy, It's a Romance... All the wrong men chase all the wrong women in Misalliance, an exuberant comedy from George Bernard Shaw that opens South Coast Repertory's 47th season. This is Shaw at his mischievous best, turning sharp wit to the relationship between parents and children. While the elders argue ideas and morals, the younger generation longs for action, adventure, love, and independence. Especially Hypatia, who is tired of all the talk and ready for something to happen. Finally it does!
I had so much fun watching this production; It's witty and goofy, and the cast absolutely rocks! Check out this scene from the first act; Hypatia is engaged to Bentley "Bunny" Summerhays, and is discussing love and marriage with her mother:
The first act is full of laugh out loud wit and humor, as well as improprieties (there is nothing straight-laced or proper about this play!) However, the second act is where the fun really starts, and it gets wild and crazy. This production is one that, if it were filmed and available on DVD, I would buy it so I could watch it again and again. I'm trying to decide if I can afford to go see it in the theatre again. Don't miss it!
